Welcome to a fun collaboration! I have teamed up with some fun, and fabulous beauty bloggers to represent make up of certain decades. You will find them and links to their AMAHZING posts at the end of this post.
The 80s.
Big hair, big boom boxes and even bigger shoulder pads.
This was the decade that seemed to have flipped the bird at the term “less is more”. The 1980s mantra was: more is more.
The 80s were not for the fainthearted, and I had a wonderful time celebrating it. If the shoulder pads weren’t big enough, I would double them up with another pair and some safety pins. Â I loved Madonna, and I was one of the “girls that wanna have fun”, Gender boundaries were pushed with Boy George, Flock of Seagulls, Human League and Spandau Ballet. The girls in the videos had the same hairstyle and make up as the boys. Let’s not forget lycra, leg warmers and headbands. But there was also a powerful glamour brought by the ladies of Dynasty.
Eyebrows got bushier. Not one, not 2, but 3 or more bright colours were applied on the eyes. Â And to top it off, bright eyeliner (usually blue) graced our waterlines above and below, partnered with coloured mascara (usually blue). Blush was piled on. Clash or match those lips with your orange, pink or red blush/eyeshadow colour as glossy as possible, and of course there had to be a darker outline.
The hair.
Crimped. Teased. The bigger the better. Push back the sides with hair combs, add a side pony.
I just realised, I really miss those days!
Anywho, enough reminiscing. (I am listening to The Pretenders – the Hits whilst writing this!)
Let’s get to business.
I wanted to take elements of what some might say is tacky (not me!), over the top (not me either!) looks of the 80s, and this is what I came up with:
This is what I used:

Here are the other beauties writing about Beauty through the Decades:
1920 with The Fanciful Fungirl
Futuristic with Sweetaholic Beauty
And just remember,
Never gonna give you up
Never gonna let you down
Never gonna run around and desert you
Never gonna make you cry
Never gonna say goodbye
Never gonna tell a lie and hurt you…

Til Next time,
You nailed the 80’s look Barbe! They were certainly wacky times for fashion & beauty. (Not that I remember much of it, being born in 1984 & all.)

haha rub it in why don’t you Shell! It was an anything goes era and colour was embraced. No “no make up” look or nude lip to be found! x

All HAIL Barbe! You’re making me want to play with colours – these are stunning! Well done to you! And the hair to go along with it!
aw Thanks Leah, after trying to make everything as natural as possible it is fun to just throw all those rules out the window and just go for it: clash, match it doesn’t matter, there are no rules, only bright colours. Thanks for playing along too x
You look amazing Barbe! While I was born in the 80’s I wish I could have ‘lived’ in the 80’s and experienced all the fashion and fabulousness for myself! I love how your eyeshadow makes your eyes pop too – so pretty 🙂 x
