It is always interesting to see what Colour Experts Pantone, pick for their colour of the year. The choice for 2015? Probably something you were wearing 20 years ago, it is deliciously reminiscent of the 90s browns: Say Hello to Marsala.
This year’s colour has had mixed responses when it was revealed earlier this year.
Ranging from:
Much like the fortified wine that gives Marsala its name, this tasteful hue embodies the satisfying richness of a fulfilling meal while its grounding red-brown roots emanate a sophisticated, natural earthiness.
To
…Icky…
…rust, the grimy, gag-inducing type that lines corners or frat boy dormitory-style bathrooms. Or blood, the freaky dried kind whose iron content has been exposed to the air long enough to evoke a dull brick…
Nice.
Where Pantone makes connections to beautiful, warm, fortified wines, and pomegranate, others have described it more leaning towards mystery meat, liver and meatloaf.
Ok then.
I love it. It is my kinda colour. This colour works so well in Interior design, in fashion and especially in make up. As much as I loved last year’s Radiant Orchid ‘s pop of mauve pink colour, this year is far more grown up. Marsala lipstick has to be one of my favourite colour, and the richness of the colour lends itself well in clothes and interior design alike. I can give you the correct pantone colour number if you like, but I tend to think that Marsala is open to interpretation. Different shades of wine/alcohol is what I would like to see, from Burgundy, to a cognac, and to even a rose gold. So beautiful in a monochrome palette. Enough gushing, you can tell I like it.
We will all just have to agree to disagree, shall we?
