Ok. I get a little excited about Spring Races and the BIG one is just around the corner: Melbourne Cup!
The one event that gives Victoria a public holiday off, and makes the rest of the nation take an extended lunch. Gotta love an event like that!! Now, some of us, actually go to work in the morning, and wearing a work AND Cup appropriate dress is not an easy thing to do.
So, because I am a nice girl, I have collated a selection of websites that are featuring work appropriate race day outfits. Anything really, for my FIS readers, because I love youse all. And I have picked my favourite if I had unlimited funds. One lives in hope.
here goes:
Look for the more structured dresses for work. This one will work with a short jacket or cardy over the top for work.

CUE – Racewear, Shop online HERE
and my favourite look:

Loads for around $100. Including Plus size and Maternity!

My fave here:

Myer Spring Racing – Shop it HERE
Loads of dresses on sale. This on By Johnny isn’t, but omg, the cut and colour of this dress. YUM>

Alibi Online – Shop Spring Races Dresses and a good range of fascinators HERE

I received a nice little blog post in the mail by Trade Secret. My pick would have to be this combo, with the WHOLE outfit being less than $100!. The dress would still be ok for work with a blazer.

All of these dresses are suitable for a morning in the office, just add a blazer and more office appropriate shoes. Come lunchtime: add a hat or fascinator, a clutch, a pair of great heels and loose the jacket. Off you go to PLACE YOUR BETS!
What do you do for Melbourne Cup at work or at home?
Til Next time,
All really great pics! I have never done a races day, think I’ll put in on the calendar for next year and frock up x
I think you should Jen! x
Love the fashion of this time of year!
How amazing is that Cooper St dress?! I’ve been eyeing it off for an upcoming wedding we’re going to.

Love the colours of that cooper street dress, Claire. Go get it! x
I’m having Melbourne Cup at home this year. Now that Boyo can get himself home from school, I don’t have to miss the Big Race!
I will definitely be frocking up and rocking a hat. As you do!

Oh you have to Kim-Marie. Go all out and have a glass of bubbly! x
I love the Cooper St dress and the black and white Asos dress. Great pics Barbe.
Both are great, and at least they are the sort of dresses you will wear again and again for different occasions x
THE BY JOHNNY DRESS IS ON MY SHOPPING LIST! BUT WHY DO THEY SCHEDULE THE RACE TO TAKE PLACE AT SCHOOL PICK UP TIME? SADLY I WILL BE PLAYING HORSEYS IN THE PLAYGROUND AT THAT TIME 🙁
When my children were smaller, we were lucky that there were some older siblings to bring our little ones home. My home was the closest to school so the little guys would always walk home together with the eldest sibling in the group on Melbourne Cup Day. We had some awesome big do’s at mine! And now mine are all grown up and mum goes out to play with her grown up work friends on Melbourne cup day! It will happen sooner than you think Kate! x ( i am so in love with that by Johnny dress)
The By Johnny dress and the Cue two-piece are simply gorgeous…also love the ASOS dress too! Have fun at the races Barbe xx
