Faces I like : Alexa Chung and how I achieved her make up look. Sorta. Kinda.

There is something about Alexa Chung.

Maybe it is her flawless skin, great ombre hair or her quirky cool fashion style. Even her plummy accent is so stylish.
Or all of the above.

A muse to many a designer, she is usually spotted front row at the major fashion designers.

Just recently she collaborated with London Cosmetic company Eyeko and released a liquid eyeliner and mascara, so everyone can have the same trademark cat eye look as Alexa.

It was this image that caught my (cat) eye. Yeah couldn’t resist that one. I had just recently purchased the new Benefit They’re Real Push Up Eyeliner, and this was all the inspiration I needed to have a go at a new look.

My usual look, my every day go-to make up is usually a very dark eye and a nude lip. I tone down the eyeshadow somewhat when I wear a bright lip usually, but unless I have hours to play, it is the same every day.

From what I can see on this picture, there is of course the great “flick”, a glowing skin and s lightly pearl apricot lip.

Adjusting it to an older skin, this is what I came up with.

This is what I used:

Primer: Hourglass Mineral Veil Primer – my holy grail primer, perfect satin finish and leaving a slight glow.

Foundation: Napoleon Perdis Foundation Stick Look 3, and concealer.

Contouring: It doesn’t look like Alexa has a lot of darker contouring product, it looks like it is used more as a bronzer. So I used 3 shades of highlighter from the Hourglass Ambient wardrobe trio to achieve depth.

Blush: Nars Orgasm

Eyes: No eyeshadow. AAARRGHH. Feels weird. I did use a bit of the Hourglass trio in Dim Light over the eyelid to create a little bit of light play. Benefit They’re Real Push UP Eyeliner and Mascara. Lower waterline: Rimmel Scandaleyes Waterproof eyeliner in Nude. I also used this nude liner above the black liner to further make it pop.

Brows: Benefit Gimme brow in medium/deep and Benefit High Brow pencil outlining the eyebrows, just to make them neat.

Lips: Maybelline Colour Sensation Matte7, Nude was too flat. So I added a bit of Nars Orgasm gloss over the top . I also outlined the lips outside the lipline with the Rimmel Scandaleyes Waterproof Eyeliner in Nude.

Finishing: More Hourglass Ambient Light in Dim Light to finish without looking too matt.

What do you think?

I feel a bit naked without my dark eyeshadow, but in all I think it looks nice and soft. I imagine this make up will look great with pastels in Summer, but for now I think I will stick to dark eyes.

Now excuse me while I go and put on some Nars Mekong eyeshadow.

Enjoy these looks by Alexa Chung.

Til Next time.

Love it…it’s always nice to try something different!! How cool is Alexa…I must admit that her fringe/ bangs were my inspiration for my own for the past year…but now I’m growing them out. However, these pics make me think twice!!

    1. OOh i love a good fringe. Never been able to have one, especially in Summer. I am a pretty sweaty girl and a fringe would just stick to my forehead and get greasy. *shudder. Love the look though.

  2. You look amazeballs, Barbe, and your eyebrows are totally fab. I hate Alexa Chung and her perfect skin – she can just “chung off”……

Just kidding, I totally want to be like her but I was rocking a cat’s eye when she was still being rocked in her cradle (though I’m not sure that’s something to brag about…..)

  3. I adore this makeup look! I so need to get my hands on the Benefit liquid eyeliner. Love your tip about using the Rimmel Scandaleyes Waterproof eyeliner in Nude along the lower waterline.
