Which Eyebrow Product Should you be using?

There are so many different brow products on the market and there seem to be more and more appearing according to the eyebrow trend of the year. So what do you choose? Whether you choose a gel, a pencil, a pomade or a powder depends on to the effect you want to achieve.  L’Oreal Paris has come up with a nice range of brow products to plump, define, correct or just tidy!

I was fortunate enough to receive a full range of brow products* by the lovely people at L’Oréal, perfect to show you exactly how each work.

Disclaimer: I have very few brow hairs as you can see in the photo above. I have tried a few magic potions that promise bushy Cara de Levigne brows, but alas, nothing works. Some of these products will work better on someone who has been blessed with a few more strands than me. Let me show you.

BROW ARTIST XPERT

L'Oreal Paris Brow Artist XpertWith a triangular shaped tip for precise application and a soft styling brush to groom brows into place and blend for a natural finish.

Suitable For: a defined brow with some gaps that need filling.

This wind up triangular shaped pencil is really easy to use. The narrow, fine tip can imitate hairs, by softly drawing strokes. Eyebrow pencils are always harder than a soft creamy eye pencil. This is especially good if you have a few gaps in between your own hairs-just draw them in! Soften the lines with the spoolie brush on the other side. You can make your brows as defined or as natural as you like with this product. (use the Clear Brow Artist Plumper to tame those stray hairs)

BROW ARTIST SHAPER

L'Oreal Brow Artist ShaperA brow pencil with professional fixing wax. Brow definers are the new essential beauty artistry tool. Style and add structure to your brows in 3 easy steps with L’Oréal Paris Superliner Brow Artist and an eyebrow pencil with professional fixing wax!

Suitable For:  The beginner with the versatility to have a defined or a natural brow

A very handy pencil: with a wax pencil on the other side to groom long brows in to place. First draw in with the pencil, fill in the gaps and define the edge of the brows. Then use the wax to fix the hairs and liner. The lid has a small eyebrow brush on the lid to smooth through and soften any lines. The only thing that is annoying that a sharpener is needed! But that is just a small minus.

BROW ARTIST SCULPT

L'Oreal BROW ARTIST SCULPTSculpt the perfect brow with one innovative tool. Draw the brow arch and tail with the conical felt tip. Style and fix the brow with the bristle brush. Unique powder-to-cream texture lets you design and define your brows effortlesslyand with a velvety matte finish.

Suitable for: Shaping and fuller brows, probably not for the beginner

Out of all of the L’Oréal Brow products, I thought I would least like this one. It has a felt tip to outline and fill in, and the brush will set the hairs in place and soften. This product is perfect for those of us not blessed with a lot of brow hair. The tip fills in the gaps, neatens the line and the tail. Be very careful using it on the front of your brow. This needs to stay fairly natural and softer and less defined than the rest of the brow.  I actually LOVE this one! (not everyone likes to have a bold brow like mine, use the mascara type brush to soften the lines and the product especially on the start of your brow)

BROW ARTIST PLUMPER

L'Oreal Brow Artis plumperL’Oréal Paris Brow Artist Plumper has been specifically formulated with a non-permanentand tinted fibre gel that is both waterproof and non-shiny. Each 0.4mm fibre is applied easily with the mini brishand plumping thin areas of the brow to give full body and character to the face.

Suitable for: Brows that need thickening and/or grooming

This mascara type brow product will thicken your brow hairs with little fibres. Also excellent to hold stray hairs in place. This will give a you very natural looking brow. Also comes in clear for smoothing down hairs. I have used this on men before too. Not my favourite, but then again I like a more defined brow. Use a pencil with this to get a neat line.

BROW ARTIST MAKER

L'Oreal Brow Artis MakerThe unique cream-to-powder formula fills in the brows to build volume. The kabuki brush softly tousles the brow hair. 1. Smoothly glide the tip from the inner brow to the brow tail and allowing the cream-to-powder formula shade and fill your brows and giving them volume. 2. Softly tousle up the brow hair with the unique kabuki brush to give brows a natural style.

Suitable for: Natural looking brows that need a little filling in

Natural looking brows girls, this is your thing. Applies like a soft pencil and dries like a powder. Use the stiff brush to soften the colour even more. You could use this with a pencil to tidy up the edges on the tail and underneath the brow.

BROW ARTIST GENIUS KIT

brow genius kitBrow Artist Genius Kit all-in-one brow kit. Style your brows like a pro. The kit contains a styling wax and a tinted powder and an angled brush and a spooled brush. The pigmented wax holds for 12 hours and the natural shaded powder allows for buildable colour.

Suitable for: Versatility! Go bold, go natural, you can do it all with this product

I really like this kit! Contains a wax, a powder, a small set of tweezers and a double sided spoolie brush. I use these steps: brush the brows into place, apply the slightly coloured wax with the brush to shape the brows and then use the powder to fill in any gaps between the hairs. A great little kit, easy to take travelling. Just take note that the wax can get a little too runny in the hot weather.

I hope that cleared it up a little. If you are in need of more help – I did a video using a pomade you can check out HERE and also some tips on how to shape with a powder on this post HERE.

I am big on brows – maybe because I don’t have much! What about you? What is your favourite product to use?

  1. Oooo I am going to have to investigate the range at L’oreal. Didn’t think of them as a house for brow products however I have used a great Maybelline product.
    Thanks for the heads up.
