Go Cray Cray for Clay! – L’Oréal Paris Pure Clay Cleansers Review

L'Oreal Pure Clay Cleansers

I receive a plethora of products to review. Some make it to my blog and some don’t. Because I want my blog to be a positive place -thoughts on beauty products, to get inspo for fashion and generally just put a smile on your face –  I will only write a review on products that I really like. The ones I don’t like, just don’t get a mention!

But recently I received the new collection of L’Oréal Pure Clay Cleansers to trial and even though they are not really suitable for my skin, I wanted to give them a review because they are damn good cleansers!  I enlisted help and handed them to my son and daughter to give them a go.

The benefits of clay/kaolin for skin are numerous:

  • Soothing for inflammation
  • Detoxifying
  • Excellent for drawing impurities
  • Absorbing oil

L'Oreal Pure Clay Cleansers

L’Oréal has combined 3 different type of clays in their mask and cleansers, each with different benefits.

You may remember the L’Oréal Pure Clay Masks I reviewed, and with the popularity of these masks – L’Oréal has brought out the sister product of a matching cleanser.

What they say:

3 PURE CLAYS + CHARCOAL
Kaolin- a highly effective natural clay, known to absorb impurities and excess sebum
Montmorillonite- rich in minerals, a clay recognised for helping to eliminate imperfections
Ghassoul- a pure clay highly concentrated in minerals, renowned to help clarify complexion
Charcoal- acts like a magnet to draw out impurities.

L’Oréal Pure Clay Purifying Cream Wash

L'Oreal Pure Clay Cleansers

The L’Oréal Paris Laboratories have combined 3 Pure Clays with the purifying properties of Eucalyptus extract to create foaming ream cleanser that perfectly cleanses and purifies the skin. Tis formula removes impurities and excess sebum.

My thoughts (and my kids’)

Of all three cleansers, I like this one the best. It seemed more gentle and creamy. It left my skin feeling squeaky clean, but I did feel the need to add extra moisture. I personally love the smell – it smells clean to me – The scent is quite strong, so if this is not your thing, maybe stay away from these cleansers.  Funnily enough, even though this one gets my vote my daughter and son liked this one the least. I believe it is because it doesn’t foam very much, which I suits me!

Apply on damp skin, massage to loosen dirt. Avoid the eye area.

Suitable for all skin types (according to L’Oréal) except very sensitive if perfume is your enemy

L’Oréal Pure Clay Exfoliating Scrub

L'Oreal Pure Clay Cleansers

The L’Oréal Paris laboratories have combined 3 Pure Clays with the cleansing properties of Red Algae extract to create an exfoliating scrub cleanser that perfectly cleanses and exfoliates the skin. Its formula contains micro grains to smooth skin and refine pores.

My thoughts (and my kids’)

I am a fan of thorough exfoliation and this one does a good job. My son LOVES a face scrub and he would use it as his every day cleanser if he could. (not recommended!) This scrub is really only suitable for young skin, I believe a more mature skin can do better (with products that contain an acid to exfoliate rather than a lot of rubbing) In saying that, my skin felt lovely and smooth and clean.

Apply to damp skin, massage in gently and avoid the eye area.

Suitable for combination/oily skin (according to L’Oréal) , but not for skin with inflamed acne/pimples

L'Oreal Pure Clay Cleansers

Pure Clay Detoxifying Gel Wash

L'Oreal Pure Clay Cleansers

The L’Oréal Paris laboratories have combined 3 Pure Clays with the magnetic properties of Charcoal extract to create a foam gel cleanser that perfectly cleanses and visibly detoxifies the skin. Its formula removes impurities to brighten skin’s complexion.

My thoughts (and my kids’)

My daughter has been using this for the last few weeks and she feels that this is probably not the right season to use this cleanser. Eventhough she has a few break outs, her skin is quite dehydrated due to lots of sports and showering and Winter heating. She likes using it (I am not keen on this in the shower, there is black splatters on the shower screen all the time!!) and she says her skin feels nice after use. Not dry.  Charcoal is the ingredient du jour and has amazing drawing and brightening properties (anyone used the charcoal toothpaste yet??)

She will continue using this, but maybe leave it until the weather is a little warm and the sebum is working overtime. quote, unquote.

I don’t know if it is psychological, but this is my least favourite of the three. Also, very fragranced.

Apply to damp skin, massage in gently and avoid the eye area.

Suitable for all skintypes. ( according to L’Oréal)

L'Oreal Pure Clay Cleansers

Like I previously stated, for the cost of these cleansers, these are really good cleansers. For more mature skin types, not so much.

At the time of writing, these were on special at Chemist Warehouse for $12.99 .

Also available in supermarkets (slip one in your trolley for your kids) and Priceline.

Please note, these products were a gift for reviewing purposes, but all reviews are my own and 100% honest. This is a personal review and results may differ for every one. I did not get paid, nor will I get paid if you decided to buy one.

  1. I ABSOLUTELY love using mud and clay masks on my (acne-prone) skin, it always responds so well to it and really does a lot to keep new break outs at bay. I’ve been wanting to try these from L’Oreal, but just haven’t gotten around to it yet. They’re on my list, though, to be sure!

  2. Great review Fashionista. I shall pass it on to the kids but it sounds like my mature dry skin needs a different product, especially now it’s winter.
    Love your work

  3. I love your photos. They give such a clear indication of the consistency and texture of the products.

I had been thinking of getting one of these but as my skin is mature like yours I might give it a miss and purchase a product specifically for mature skin instead.

  4. Nice one Barbe – I bought the black gel and the red scrub, but dismissed the wash as I’m not keen on cream cleansers, but I might have been a bit hasty lol. Loving the charcoal gel a couple of times a week, crazy about the fragrance. The scrub not so much, but for a once-in-7 days, it works fine. I reckon L’Oreal is onto a winner with these matching cleansers and masks xxx
