As part of my MECCA LOOP reward program, I was offered a complementary Make Up Application lesson recently, and last Sunday I finally booked in to have a lesson with the lovely Nikky at Mecca Cosmetica Westfield Miranda*.

After a chat, we decided on one of the looks that is everywhere on the runways at the moment:

Dewy, luminous skin, simple eye colours with a hint of metallic, simple understated contour and a bold lip

After prepping me with the beautiful Chantecaille Anti Ageing skincare range  (and omg how nice does a little facial massage feel??) Nikky decided on priming with By Terry Terrybly Densiliss Anti Wrinkle Primer and the By Terry Eclat Opulent Nutri-Lifting Foundation. Jampacked with 14 secret ingredients (research tells me that there is Hyaluronic Acid in this gem to plump out and smooth fine lines) to create a smooth, luminous finish. This foundation offers a beautiful finish with medium coverage.

For the eyes she used the following colours and other products:

  • NARS Eyeshadows: Biarritz as a base, Sophia as a transition (medium) colour and the beautiful New York as an accent colour. Andromeda Dual Intensity Eyeshadow (can be used wet or dry)
  • By Terry Ombre Blackstar Cream Eyeshadow Pencils in Bronze Moon and  Black Matte.
  • Hourglass Mechanical Gel Eyeliner in Obsidian for the top and bottom waterline
  • Kevyn Aucoin The Essential Defining Mascara

To set my foundation and concealer,  Nikky used Hourglass Radiant Light to give a more bronzed glowing look (I usually use Dim Light). Also used was the Hourglass Illume Sheer Colour Trio, cream contour, blush and highlight. Such a beautiful product (had to buy this one!!)

Blush was Hourglass Dim Infusion (“makes you look like nanna pinched you on the cheeks and sent you out the door” – Nikky), Contour was Nars Laguna and highlight Hourglass Ambient Brilliant Strobe light.

For day, she used my favourite nude lipstick Nars Audacious in Barbara and amped it up with Nars Audacious Greta.

I walked in with a terrible case of hay fever and swollen sinuses and a big spot on my nose (what the hell??  I am 53!!) but walked out feeling pampered, glamorous and a million bucks!

I decided to video the lesson so you can see some of the tips and hints I learned. Excuse the shaky video and the terrible audio but I wanted a REAL presentation of what it is like. Hope you like! It’s about 20 minutes, so grab a cuppa or a glass of wine x

I highly recommend booking a lesson with the girls from Mecca Cosmetica and if you go to  the Westfield Miranda store, please say hi from me, they are all so lovely and professional!
