The last 12 months have been a bit of a nightmare for my family.
We have struggled through mental health issues and all the problems that come with it, subsequent redundancy, and lots of big decisions to make: financially and in our day to day life.
It was a lot. And I have felt so overwhelmed more than once.
So taking stock (I have been looking for the right words and Norlin from Baubles Bubbles Bags came up with this post and I stole the term), I realise this is what I have been doing to take my mind of the problems:
- I work too hard
- I eat too much and irregularly
- I drink too much wine
- Shop too much
I also realise what I haven’t been doing and what I should have:
- I haven’t looked after my health: my oncology check up is wayyyy overdue and haven’t been to the dentist for a year and a half
- I haven’t been getting enough sleep and have been living on about 5 hours sleep a night
- I have not been exercising
- I have not spend quality time with my family
I literally told myself STOP, WHAT ARE YOU DOING??
This is not sustainable. You can not go on like this. Self, You are not living a good quality life at the moment: you are sluggish come 3pm and you are struggling to stay focussed, you have put on weight, and energy is definitely lacking.
So here is what I am going to do about it:
The FANTASTIC company I work for has provided all their employees with a Fitbit to encourage us to move more. I am aiming to do at least 12k steps a day, and to do at least half an hour to an hour walk before work (at 6am). 12000 steps is around 1900 calories burned a day, and if I consume 1200 calories, BINGO – there should be a weightloss! (although this is not my main focus). It tracks stairs I climbed, and how many calories I consume and we even do mini challenges within the company!
I will go to bed at 10-10:30pm at night. This way I get around 8 hours sleep. The Fitbit also tracks sleep and quality of sleep as well.
I have booked a dentist and oncology appointment for next month.
Rest and Connect.
My husband and I have booked a holiday. Just a week for a break. This is the first time we will have a holiday without children in about 25 years. We both have been through a lot and this is what we need. The plan is to swim, laze, and sightsee. Can’t wait.
Regularly and healthy. I am trialling 2 weeks of Lite n Easy* and this is saving me so much time! I now regularly eat 3 beautiful meals a day, with snacks in between, totalling up to 1200 calories. (and I might be grossing you out here: eating regular meals will keep you regular as well, if you know what I mean!) I have time for my hour walk because all I need to do is reach and grab my breakfast and lunch for the working day. No preparation, no spending a bucketload of money on lunches in the CBD. Love it. And in fact, I am ordering a weeks worth for my son and daughter so they have regular meals ready for them whilst my husband and I are on holidays for the week! I love that Lite n Easy is so flexible that I can order 5 or 7 meal plan, adjust the calorie count for the day, or just order breakfast/lunches or dinners. Too easy. Oh and just in case you were wondering: the meals are all delicious!
The offer to trial Lite n Easy could not have come at a better time. Whether it makes me lose weight or not, is too early to tell, but there are so many more advantages than that. I will definitely keep going once the trial is finished. It was the kick up the bum I needed.
Regarding shopping? A girl has to have some fun right? Don’t think I will be giving that up any time soon!
And another thing I will not be giving up, but nurture more: is blogging. It is my escape, my sanity and my creative outlet. If you only enjoy reading my blog a small percentage of how much I enjoy writing it, it is worth every single hour I spend at my desk writing.
Will keep you informed of my progress!
Have you tried Lite n Easy?
*please note, the trial was offered to me for reviewing purposes. All photos and comments are my own and are 100% honest.
