How Lite n Easy gave me the kick up the bum that I needed…

The last 12 months have been a bit of a nightmare for my family.

We have struggled through mental health issues and all the problems that come with it, subsequent redundancy, and lots of big decisions to make:  financially  and in our day to day life.

It was a lot. And I have felt so overwhelmed more than once.

So taking stock (I have been looking for the right words and Norlin from Baubles Bubbles Bags came up with this post and I stole the term), I realise this is what I have been doing to take my mind of the problems:

  • I work too hard
  • I eat too much and irregularly
  • I drink too much wine
  • Shop too much

I also realise what I haven’t been doing and what I should have:

  • I haven’t looked after my health: my oncology check up is wayyyy overdue and haven’t been to the dentist for a year and a half
  • I haven’t been getting enough sleep and have been living on about 5 hours sleep a night
  • I have not been exercising
  • I have not spend quality time with my family

STOP

I literally told myself STOP, WHAT ARE YOU DOING??

This is not sustainable. You can not go on like this.  Self, You are not living a good quality life at the moment: you are sluggish come 3pm and you are struggling to stay focussed, you have put on weight, and energy is definitely lacking.

So here is what I am going to do about it:

Walk.

The FANTASTIC company I work for has provided all their employees with a Fitbit to encourage us to move more. I am aiming to do at least 12k steps a day, and to do at least half an hour to an hour walk before work (at 6am). 12000 steps is around 1900 calories burned a day, and if I consume 1200 calories, BINGO – there should be a weightloss! (although this is not my main focus). It tracks stairs I climbed, and how many calories I consume and we even do mini challenges within the company!

Sleep.

I will go to bed at 10-10:30pm at night. This way I get around 8 hours sleep. The Fitbit also tracks sleep and quality of sleep as well.

Health.

I have booked a dentist and oncology appointment for next month.

Rest and Connect.

My husband and I have booked a holiday. Just a week for a break. This is the first time we will have a holiday without children in about 25 years. We both have been through a lot and this is what we need. The plan is to swim, laze, and sightsee. Can’t wait.

Eat.

Regularly and healthy. I am trialling 2 weeks of Lite n Easy*  and this is saving me so much time!  I now regularly eat 3 beautiful  meals a day, with snacks in between, totalling up to 1200 calories.  (and I might be grossing you out here: eating regular meals will keep you regular as well, if you know what I mean!)  I have time for my  hour walk because all I need to do is reach and grab my breakfast and lunch for the working day. No preparation, no spending a bucketload of money on lunches in the CBD. Love it.  And in fact, I am ordering a weeks worth for my son and daughter so they have regular meals ready for them whilst my husband and I are on holidays for the week! I love that Lite n Easy is so flexible that I can order 5 or 7 meal plan, adjust the calorie count for the day, or just order breakfast/lunches or dinners. Too easy. Oh and just in case you were wondering: the meals are all delicious!

The offer to  trial Lite n Easy could not have come at a better time. Whether it makes me lose weight or not, is too early to tell, but there are so many more advantages  than that. I will definitely keep going once the trial is finished. It was the kick up the bum I needed.

Regarding shopping? A girl has to have some fun right? Don’t think I will be giving that up any time soon!

And another thing I will not be giving up, but nurture more:  is blogging. It is my escape, my sanity and my creative outlet. If you only enjoy reading my blog a small percentage of how much I enjoy writing it, it is worth every single hour I spend at my desk writing.

Will keep you informed of my progress!

Have you tried Lite n Easy?

*please note, the trial was offered to me for reviewing purposes. All photos and comments are my own and are 100% honest.

  1. Oh Barbe it’s just too easy to allow the everyday to take over and before you know it we are last on the list. Sometimes I get cross at myself for not making the most of the second chance I’ve been given but we are all human and as long as we eventually get back on track we are all doing ok.

I’ve been looking into a food box delivery service here in SA, all fresh ingredients and recipe card.

I bet you can’t wait for your holiday with the huz, exciting X

    1. It just happens doesn’t it, Jen. There are not enough hours in the day to fit it all in, and i guess i put myself last on the list. I am hoping the holiday is what we need, we are heading over to Bali! x

    1. I am pleasantly surprised too. Mind you, i have taken the food out of the packet and arranged it attractively (sort of) on a plate for the sake of the pretty picture. Most of the time i just eat it straight out of the container : no washing up right?

      x

  2. So sweet of your company to do that for you all! The Lite N Easy food looks great – I’ll be honest, I’m a little surprised by that but it looks a lot better than what I eat for lunch sometimes, haha.

  3. I’d love to try Lite and Easy and have wanted to for ages but the cost of buying separate food and the pain of still having to organise regular meals for the rest of the family stops me from giving it a go. Hope your regrouping pays off and you’re feeling back on track soon!

    1. Thanks Beth. My family is a bit older and pretty self-sufficient. I am feeling a little bit guilty leaving them to their own devices, so their Lite n Easy deliveries on Friday should make up for it.
I am pretty sure a holiday will make the difference, just to get away from everything. xoxo

  4. Thank you for being so honest and open with the struggles you have been facing. Wishing you all the best with your goals. Sometimes life does get unexpectedly hard but you have to change your thinking and deal with it, which sounds like you have done. Have a great holiday.

  5. How’d the diet go? We’ve done Lne though can’t seem to resist cheating!! The dinners get quite boring and representative we found. As we had a small selection that we’d approve of 😛 The delemiar of being a food blogger is high standards.

    1. I really liked the food! The fact i didn’t have to cook has a lot to do with it. I lost a little for my holidays and then i put it all back on eating all that yummy indo food. Too hard to resist. I was pleasantly surprised by quality of the food, but the convenience of it all is what sold me x

  6. It's so good being able to read other people's experiences with their bodies! I love linking up to this (when I'm prepared), and you always have such a refreshing view on body image. I find I'm always thinking about my weight/body and I hate it. I'm trying really hard to change that though 🙂 Thanks for sharing this!
