Review: Micro Dermabrasion and Omnilux beauty treatments at Thaspa!

God. I love being a Beauty and Style blogger.

I get to try, and play and review and all those things that are fun (as opposed to work!)

I was very lucky to receive a *treatment at Thaspa in Sydney’s CBD this weekend. As you may or may not know, I suffer from Hyper pigmentation due to hormonal changes in the aftermath of chemotherapy, and left over acne scarring.

I am pretty good at covering it up, but it is a constant battle keeping the brown spots at bay. Make up will not sit well on the skin, if the skin is not in tip top condition and I welcomed the treatment with open arms. ( I may or may not have done a happy dance at this stage)

Thaspa is an oasis in the middle of the CBD, close to Martin Place.

As soon as I walked in, it seemed like I was a million miles away from all the hustle and bustle, and the rain and wind. Smiles were warm and welcoming and I felt like I had escaped LIFE for a little while.

It was decided that the ideal treatment for me, was to have a Microdermabrasion and to follow with Omnilux treatment. I have had both of these before and I know they give very good results.

What is Microdermabrasion? This is how it is explained on Thaspa’s site:

This is an effective way to gently exfoliate the skin by removing the outer layer, revealing your newer, younger skin underneath. After your treatment your skin will feel smoother and have improved texture. This effect will last for several weeks whilst your skin develops a new stratum corneum layer. Your treatment starts with a full lymphatic drainage treatment before the device sprays tiny crystals across your face to lightly abrade the surface then suction is performed to remove the dead skin cells and the remaining crystals.

Our Microdermabrasion deals are perfect if you want to:
•minimise the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
•reduce pigmentation (age spots or brown spots) and other superficial skin blemishes
•minimise the appearance of enlarged pores and reduce blackheads
•minimise acne scarring
•improve your skin tone and texture

Marijana, my therapist,  explained that Thaspa uses Sapphire Crystals for their Micro Dermabrasion machines to get the best result.

How does it feel?  Is it uncomfortable? The answer is yes, slightly. But not unbearably so. It feels like a little scratching all over the skin. Marijana was very conscious of how it felt on my skin and was constantly asking me about my comfort level.  I knew the results would be there and I  just grinned and beared it.

The Omnilux Treatment was next.

What is Omnilux? Omnilux is a light therapy that separates the Red Light part of the Natural Light Spectrum to improve the skin appearance and rejuvenates. It does this by stimulate the natural moisture renewal process, it deeply hydrates and plumps the skin. It is safe, it is relaxing, and the results are immediate. (it is said that Kerri-Ann Kennerley  has a weekly treatment to keep her skin looking amazing). The application takes 20 minutes of pure relaxing bliss.

A course of 9 is recommended, but  a one off treatment for a special occasion really gets your glow on.

How does it feel?  I love this treatment. I just want to kiss it, it is that good. If you are claustrophobic, you may want to think twice (or think about the results instead!) I knew what to expect, but it is still a bit of a shock when the light comes on. It is SUPER bright, even with goggles on. Once you get used to the light, and it takes a couple of minutes, it is very relaxing. Marijana gave me a lovely hand massage whilst the light was on. I was struggling to stay awake and woke myself by one almighty snore. Slightly embarrassing.

So. Results.

My skin feels smooth, plumped and glowing. The brown spots, which usually are a little rougher and drier seem less dark. I feel like I had a little sleep on a very lovely beach and my skin is still warm from the sunshine. There was no redness apparent, even though this can happen for up to 24 hours after the Microdermabrasion treatment. To get the best results, a course of microdermabrasions are the way to go. I will be getting a course of these so I will keep you updated with my progress!

Here is a make up less selfie straight after the treatment. (OMG).  Sorry,  not completely make up less: Had to apply eyebrows, I just looked odd without. No filters. No editing.  be nice: Just remember I am 51!

  1. I’ve never had but have heard of microdermabrasion. Honestly? I’m too scared to try because it’s really difficult to find a legit therapist (not beautician) that can do it without damaging your skin. From your photos I could see that your skin does look fresh after it though.

    1. I know Norlin. It is a little scary to have this scratching/sucking treatment on your skin. It feels like it should be doing a ton of damage. The thing is though, a good therapist will gauge the sensitivity of your skin. The lymphatic drainage that was done at first, had a second purpose, to check sensitivity, so the Microdermabrasion could be adjusted accordingly.

My skin feels great and smooth x

  2. I love going there, the staff are so lovely & well trained. I always get a great treatment when I go there & their treatments & products have given me great results with my post pregnancy pigmentation. I too highly recommend them.

  3. Hi Barbe,

I definitely agree with you, when it comes to working it’s very stressful but when it comes to beauty and skin care it’s stress-free :). Thank you for sharing. I will try to experience how is it in Thaspa. Will go with my friends.
