Dream Week, 7 days of Hope – Look Good…Feel Better

Dream week 2014

My blog is all about fashion, make up and skincare – so it is only fitting I write about a charity that is very close to my heart.
What do you think happens to ones self confidence, when not only have you been diagnosed with life threatening disease, but the treatment for this disease, changes the way you look?

Look Good Feel Better is a free community service program dedicated to helping Australians undergoing treatment for cancer. The purpose of the program is to help patients with cancer to look good, improve their self esteem, and manage their treatment and recovery with greater confidence.

I started off 6 years ago attending their amazing workshop as a patient. I walked out of there inspired, positive and feeling loved and have been involved ever since. I knew I wanted to be part of this wonderful organization. I assist at workshops where I can, showing women, men and teens how to look after their skin while undergoing treatment, how to apply corrective make up and how to use wigs, scarfs and turbans, but since I work full time, I assist after hours where I can.

LGFB is sponsored by the Cosmetic Industry in Australia: over $2.5 million worth of products are donated and is staffed by 1500 Volunteers looking after 10,000 cancer patients this year.

Dreamweek is LGFB yearly fundraising week running from 31 August ending with a big glamorous Dreamball on the 5th of September, at Luna Park in Sydney.

Yes. That is Kerri-Anne Kennerly in the middle. She is the Look Good…Feel Better’s patron.

There are a few ways you can help to raise funds and create awareness:

PURCHASE A LIPSTICK During Dream Week $1 from every lipstick or lip-gloss sold at David Jones and Myer stores, nationally, will be donated to Look Good…Feel Better. Who doesn’t need another lippy? While you’re there, go and say hi to the volunteers at the Merchandise Outpost and buy some beautifully designed merchandise – all inspired by the beautiful floral Dream Week theme.

SNAP A POUTY SELFIE. Wear a lippy every day and post your gorgeous lips on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram with the hashtag #7daysoflipstick and tag @lgfbaustralia. Tag some friends to join in the fun!

DONATE. We try, but we can’t be everywhere. Check out LG…FB website, to see how your donation helps our workshops, or with the Home delivered Confidence Kits, our workshops in a box for those that can’t attend a workshop due to health or travel reasons.

Lastly, don’t think this is a sad affair. Women, Men and teens have a great morning, ending with laughs, exchanging phone numbers, very uplifting.

If you work in the beauty industry, consider donating time to this cause. The joy you give to people undergoing such an intense treatment is priceless.

Here is a video from last year, featuring patients, hospital staff and my beautiful fellow LGFB volunteers and featuring our stunning patron Kerri Ann Kennerley. I hope it makes you smile.

LGFB – Stronger!

Til next time,
