The Hits and Misses of my Online E.L.F. Cosmetics Haul

I did a little happy dance whenI first noticed ELF (eyes, lips, face) cosmetics at my local KMart.

I had read and viewed reviews on ELF and I just couldn’t imagine a cosmetics brand being that cheap and  to deliver as well.

Read my first review of ELF here

A couple of months on, the offer at KMart is still limited, with lots of empty spaceson the stand. I am not sure if they are just selling as fast as they come  in, or if KMart does not have the full range in store yet.

Enough waiting! I am an impatient woman!!

So when there was a 25% discount offered on orders over $40 online, I jumped at the chance. Yeah, I know, doesn’t take much to make me happy!

Order placed, 2 days later I received my package!

Want to know what I bought?

Here we go:

Crystal Pink Brush and Studio collection:

They just look so pretteeee and are fairly good brushes. A lovely addition to my collection. Cheap and Cheerful

  • Crystal Foundation Brush $7
  • Crystal Total Face Brush $7
  • Crystal Blush Brush $7
  • Crystal Eyeliner Brush $6
  • E.L.F. Studio Fan Brush $8
  • E.L.F. Studio Angled Eyeliner Brush $8

The Studio brushes are a better quality, but the pink brushes are super cute: NEUTRAL.

From top to bottom:

E.L.F. Cover Everything Concealer $6

This rich blendable cream concealer easily covers under-eye circles and imperfections for flawless looking coverage. Simply dab concealer onto areas you wish to cover for a flawless, natural look! The safe, gentle formula is ideal for all skin types for beautiful healthy-looking skin.

This is a highly pigmented, colour correcting concealer. Yellow <—> opposite to the blue/violet on the colour wheel, therefor neutralises dark circles under the eyes: HIT.

E.L.F. Studio Lip definer and Shaper

Enhance your lips by creating a fuller more defined lip easily! One side highlights lips to create a beautiful youthful glow, while the other side defines lips for a perfect pouty look.

With a Nude shimmery highlighter on one end, and aNatural lipliner on the other end, this sounded promising. For anyone with any other colouring than mine, this would be an amazing product. For me, this had a bit too much pink for my skin. This one, I will pass on!: MISS

E.L.F Essentials Eyelid Primer $3

Preps your eyelid for smoother, longer-lasting and crease-proof eyeshadow. The ultra sheer nude color works to increase eye color longevity. The lightweight liquid formula quickly absorbs into the skin for comfortable wear.

I was very keen on trying this, as I heard good reports about this product. And omg at this price? The colour I bought is called Sheer, but comes in other colours. It does everything it promises: it intensifies eyeshadow, and stops creasing. WIN/WIN! : HIT

E.L.F. Studio Radiance Enhancer $8

This multi-use highlighter instantly transforms and enhances features with its glowing veil of warmth and luminosity. When used or layered for optimum effect, it reduces the appearance of dullness, dark circles and minimized discoloration. The lightweight, velvety formula provides a fresh and silky finish for a healthy and natural looking lit-from-within glow.

I have just ran out of my YSL Touche Eclat, an all time favourite. Before I ran out and replaced it, I thought I would try another. As a comparison, the E.L.F does not perform as well as my YSL. Again, too much pink in it! Saying that, it is absorbed by the skin rapidly, and leaves a hint of shimmery, slight irridescence light reflecting film. I will use this around the eye area, and also quite nice around the eyebrows, but I will not use it like I do my YSL. You get what you pay for I guess!: MISS

E.L.F. Studio Glitter Gloss – Glittering Diamonds $8

Dazzle and shine with this intense, show-stopping glitter filled gloss. Infused with light-reflecting micropearls, this non-sticky gloss illuminates lips with sheer brilliance and lots of color. Vitamin E hydrates lips for additional lip-quenching moisture while the precision brush applicator provides the perfect amount of gloss for effortless coverage, everytime.

LOVE THIS! It is amazingly similar to MAC Dazzleglass Phiff! Maybe a little more golden, but I really like the consistency. Not too wet and not too sticky. A definite win.: HIT

E.L.F Long-Lasting Lustrous Eyeshadow x2 in Celebration, and Party $8 each

Soft and fluffy, these vibrant, shimmering Long Lasting Lustrous Eyeshadow colors can be used as eyeshadow or a bold liner. The whipped gel texture is easy to blend and lightweight for lasting comfort and wear. Perfect for highlighting the brow bone and adding extra shimmer for a truly glam look.

On one particular blog, these eyeshadows were likened to Chanel Eyeshadows, and that got me curious. I had to try them, didn’t I!

Beautiful and soft, long lasting (I used the Eyelid Primer first), these are a dream to apply and blend. Texture is a fluffy gel. Very very lovely: HIT

E.L.F Studio Makeup Lock & Seal $8

Increase the intensity of your makeup colors and lock it on instantly. Coat your eyeliner, shadow, lipsticks, blush, brow color and more for a sealed smudge-proof wear. The quick dry and easy to use formula keeps you makeup in place for hours. Say goodbye to makeup smudges and hello to makeup that stays put!

Not too sure about this product yet. I think I would like to try it in a few different ways. Today I used it on a brush before I used the Long Lasting Lustrous Eyeshadows and I used around the eye as a smudged liner. Will let you know about this one: NEUTRAL

E.L.F. Translucent Matifying Powder $8

Achieve even flawless skin that’s smoother, redefined and shine free. This translucent powder works on a wide variety of skin tones to help set your makeup in so it lasts longer. The silky lightweight formula also miraculously mattes skin to diminish oil and shine for a beautiful and healthy look!

Not a bad translucent powder at all! I don’t use a lot of it, but it is great to set your make up and get rid of some shine. Very nice! A very soft, fine textured powder : HIT

So far so good. I am quite taken by this budget range. I should not be a snob, and actually try some of the cheaper lines available. As someone told me, at this price, you can afford to have a couple of misses.

Below are some images of how I used what I bought.

20140406-130341.jpg
I used both colour eyeshadows, Radiance enhancer on the brow bone and cheekbone. Lip definer with the Glitter Gloss.

20140406-130349.jpg
Celebration shadow on the inner corners and Party shadow all over.

20140406-130356.jpg
Lip Definer and SHaper and Dazzling Diamond Glitter gloss

  1. I’m really interested to see your next review of the Lock and Seal as I have it in my basket. I love ELF products, they do a small palette of around 8-10 round shadows and it’s divine, I rarely get a miss luckily so far. I just reviewed some now under Mixed Haul on the Facebook group

  2. I love the ELF Studio Line brushes! I have their Studio Blush, Angled, and Bent Liner brushes. All amazing.

Did the Cover All Concealer crease under your eyes throughout the day? I sometimes have a problem with that.

    1. That is true. You have to be willing to take that risk. I have been lucky that even if i didn’t think the product is not performing as I feel it should then i am putting it to use in a different way OR give it to a friend. X

  3. great reviews- I like their products because they are so affordable. I agree that some of them are total steals for the quality, but others do seem like misses. I have really liked their eye liners, but some of the shadows have been misses. Thanks for sharing your reviews! xo

    1. Hi Vicki! Yes! That is exactly what you use it for. Either mix it or dab it over the top. There are loads more uses for the product. I was thinking of doing a review and a how-to this weekend. You have just convinced me. 🙂 x
